Texas Spurs Innovation, Economic Security

San Antonio Mayor Gina Ortiz Jones introduced the Economic Security Advisory Group to boost the city’s innovation ecosystem and economic resilience.

The advisory group will focus on attracting and growing companies in AI, quantum technology, biotechnology, and space manufacturing. It aims to strengthen San Antonio's innovation ecosystem and position the city as a leader in these emerging technologies. The ESAG will advise the Mayor on strategies to make San Antonio competitive in the identified key areas. This includes providing input on infrastructure improvements and structuring economic development deals. The group is comprised of professionals with experience in national security, advanced manufacturing, and biomedicine. The group, which consists of 11 members, will be chaired by Jim Perschbach, President & CEO of Port San Antonio. The ESAG is expected to meet quarterly to provide updates to the city. Jones and several ESAG members will travel to Taiwan to meet with government officials and the Taiwan Electrical and Electronic Manufacturers' Association. The trip aims to encourage Taiwanese partners to establish operations in San Antonio.
