Kathy Brown House Music Comeback
House music legend Kathy Brown made a stellar comeback with 'I'm Gonna Make It,' collaborating with Revival House Project and producer Mousse T. The single is receiving praise for its uplifting energy and classic house feel. Brown's return is energizing both electronic and dance music communities after years away from the spotlight.
This comeback is deeply personal for Kathy Brown, who was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer that had metastasized to her brain in late 2023. The news led to emergency surgery and an ongoing course of radiotherapy and immunotherapy, forcing her to halt live performances and significantly impacting her income. In response to her diagnosis, the dance music community rallied around the iconic vocalist. Her daughter, Chanta Joyner, established a GoFundMe campaign to help with medical expenses. Additionally, Toolroom Records released a charity single, "Turn Me Deeper," featuring Brown's vocals with artists Wh0, Mark Knight, and James Hurr, with all royalties and publishing earnings pledged to her treatment. The collaboration on "I'm Gonna Make It" is with notable figures in house music. Mousse T. is a Grammy-nominated German-Turkish producer famous for the '90s hit "Horny '98" and producing Tom Jones' "Sex Bomb." Revival House Project is a collective that includes Mousse T., dedicated to reimagining classic songs for today's dance floors. Brown's career spans over three decades, beginning with singing in a gospel choir before moving to New York. She became a defining voice of house music with a string of hits, including "Can't Play Around" (1993), the chart-topping "Turn Me Out" as the lead singer of Praxis (1994), and the UK top ten hit "Strings Of Life (Stronger On My Own)" with Soul Central (2004). To honor her contributions, the Glitterbox label released "Legacy," a compilation album of her classic tracks featuring new remixes from artists like DJ Spen and Michael Gray. Brown stated the project was about cementing her legacy as a pivotal figure in the house music movement. Looking ahead, Brown has several live performances scheduled for 2026, including appearances at the Brixton Disco Festival and the BACK2HOUSE Festival Weekender. A remix package for "I'm Gonna Make It" was also released in February 2026, continuing the momentum of her powerful return to music.
