Dublin Literary Award Longlist Announced

The 2026 Dublin Literary Award longlist has been announced with twenty novels in contention for the world's most valuable annual prize for a single work of fiction. The longlist highlights global diversity and excellence in contemporary writing across multiple countries and literary traditions.

- The prize is worth €100,000, making it one of the most valuable literary awards in the world for a single novel. If the winning book is a translation, the author receives €75,000 and the translator receives €25,000. - The nomination process is unique among major book prizes: novels are nominated by public libraries from cities all over the world. For the 2026 award, 69 titles were nominated by 80 libraries in 36 countries. - The 2026 longlist includes well-known authors such as Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, Sally Rooney, and Ocean Vuong, as well as Irish debut novelist Niamh Ní Mhaoleoin. - A shortlist of six titles is scheduled to be announced on April 7, 2026, and the winner will be declared on May 21, 2026, as part of the International Literature Festival Dublin. - The award, first established in 1996, is sponsored by Dublin City Council and administered by Dublin City Libraries, highlighting the city's commitment to global literature. - The judging panel for 2026 includes authors Xiaolu Guo and Disha Bose, writer and former diplomat Daniel Mulhall, translator Clara Ministral, and performance poet Dike Chukwumerije. - Of the titles nominated for the 2026 award, 30 are works in translation from 17 different languages, and 20 are debut novels. - Past winners of the award include "Solenoid" by Mircea Cărtărescu (2024), "Marzahn, Mon Amour" by Katja Oskamp (2023), and "The Art of Losing" by Alice Zeniter (2022).
