Gott's Roadside to open at LA's Farmers Market
The Napa Valley-based burger establishment Gott’s Roadside is set to open its flagship Los Angeles location on March 6th. The new restaurant will be located at the Original Farmers Market in the Beverly Grove area. The opening marks a significant expansion for the brand into the Southern California market.
- The new location is designed by BCV Architecture + Interiors, the same firm behind other Gott's locations, including the one at San Francisco's Chase Center. The design emphasizes an indoor-outdoor experience, a signature of the brand, with a large patio, open interiors, and communal seating. - The design for the firm's Chase Center location, which may inform the Farmers Market aesthetic, utilized a palette of painted wood siding, blackened steel, stainless steel, oak benches, and ipe wood furniture. A unique feature for the Farmers Market restaurant will be a dedicated soft-serve window, adding a nostalgic and interactive element to the design. - The restaurant's placement within The Original Farmers Market is a strategic choice to integrate into a historic urban space. Gott's President Clay Walker compared the location to the brand's other successful outposts in prominent public markets, such as San Francisco's Ferry Building and Napa's Oxbow Public Market. - The Original Farmers Market itself dates back to July 1934, when local farmers began selling produce from their trucks on a vacant lot. The land was originally part of a dairy farm started in 1880 by Arthur Fremont Gilmore, which later became an oil field before the market was established. - This project represents an adaptive reuse of a space within a historically significant site, which was designated as a Los Angeles Historic-Cultural Monument. The market evolved from temporary stalls to a permanent installation with its iconic clock tower being added in 1948. - The Gott's brand identity is rooted in the modernization of a classic mid-century American roadside stand. The original location, Taylor's Refresher in St. Helena, was established in 1949 before brothers Joel and Duncan Gott took it over in 1999, preserving its retro charm while updating the concept.
