Michelin has launched its first Philippines guide, covering Manila and nearby dining hubs plus Cebu in a 2026 edition. (michelin.com) The first restaurant selection was unveiled on October 30, 2025, at the Manila Marriott Hotel in Newport World Resorts. Michelin said the debut edition lists 108 establishments: 1 with two stars, 8 with one star, 25 Bib Gourmand picks, and 74 Michelin Selected restaurants. (michelin.com) Michelin’s coverage goes beyond Metro Manila proper. Its inspectors evaluated restaurants in Makati, Manila, Mandaluyong, Parañaque, Pasay, Quezon City, Taguig and San Juan, plus nearby areas including Pampanga, Tagaytay and Cavite, along with Cebu. (guide.michelin.com, spot.ph) The rollout was paired with a pocket guidebook and promoted during Filipino Food Month by Philippine officials overseas. The Philippine Embassy in Singapore said the print guide is meant for travelers and food enthusiasts exploring key culinary destinations in the country. (philippine-embassy.org.sg) For Michelin, the Philippines adds another Southeast Asian market to a network that already includes Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia and Vietnam. The company described the Manila-and-Cebu launch as the first-ever restaurant selection for the Philippines. (michelin.com, guide.michelin.com) For Philippine tourism officials, the guide is also a tourism product. The embassy said the launch supports efforts to promote Philippine gastronomy as part of cultural diplomacy and tourism promotion, while Tourism Secretary Christina Garcia Frasco called the debut a milestone for Filipino culinary recognition. (philippine-embassy.org.sg, manilabulletin.ph) The awards also put names and numbers on that recognition. Michelin’s inaugural list gave Helm two stars, awarded one Green Star to Gallery by Chele, and handed special awards for young chef, service and cocktails. (michelin.com, guide.michelin.com) Michelin’s system can shape travel routes as much as restaurant bookings, and the geography of this guide reflects that. By naming “Manila and Environs” rather than only the capital, Michelin folded in nearby food destinations that Filipinos already treat as part of the country’s dining circuit. (spot.ph, guide.michelin.com) The next test is whether Michelin turns a one-time debut into an annual platform for Philippine restaurants. For now, the 2026 guide gives the country its first official place in Michelin’s global rankings, with Manila’s orbit and Cebu as the opening map. (michelin.com, philippine-embassy.org.sg)
