Red Flag Warning in Effect for Fort Lauderdale Area

A red flag warning is currently in effect for seven regions near Fort Lauderdale. The warning was issued due to a combination of dry and windy conditions, which elevate the risk of fire hazards. Local residents and businesses are being urged to take necessary precautions.

- The National Weather Service issued the warning for all of South Florida, including Broward and Miami-Dade counties, effective from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Monday. - The hazardous conditions are the result of an extremely dry air mass moving in behind a cold front. - Specific meteorological triggers for the warning include northwesterly winds of 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 30 mph, combined with relative humidity levels dropping as low as 20% to 25%. - The Florida Forest Service's Everglades District has already reported a few small, active fires that are currently being monitored. - This is reportedly the first Red Flag Warning issued for the South Florida area since April 2025. - In addition to the fire risk, a cold weather advisory is in effect for inland Broward and Miami-Dade, with wind chills expected to drop into the 30s overnight into Tuesday morning. - Authorities are recommending against any form of outdoor burning and are advising residents not to drive or park vehicles over dry grass, as the hot underside can cause ignition.
