Battlefield 6 Large Maps Delayed

Battlefield 6 developers confirmed that larger maps are "one of the most time-intensive things" to build and are still in development with no concrete release date. DICE and EA remain committed to the franchise's signature sandbox experience despite the technical and gameplay challenges involved.

- The previous title, *Battlefield 2042*, launched with significant criticism aimed at its large-scale maps, which many players found to be too open with excessive travel times between objectives, earning it the nickname "Walking Simulator". - In response to feedback on *Battlefield 2042*, developers later reworked several of its large maps to add more cover, reduce the distance between objectives, and improve the overall flow of gameplay. - Following *2042*'s troubled launch, EA appointed Vince Zampella, the head of Respawn Entertainment, to oversee the entire Battlefield franchise, signaling a major leadership change. - The next Battlefield game is reportedly taking a "back to its roots" approach, moving away from *2042*'s 128-player matches and returning to a 64-player count and a traditional class system to recapture the feel of earlier titles like *Battlefield 3* and *4*. - Development of the next Battlefield title involves a multi-studio effort, with franchise creator DICE leading the multiplayer, EA Motive handling a single-player campaign, and Criterion Games and Ripple Effect Studios providing support. - DICE officially ended major seasonal content for *Battlefield 2042* after its seventh season to shift development resources and focus toward the next installment of the franchise. - In late 2025, a DICE developer noted a significant number of former employees who had worked on acclaimed titles in the series were returning to the studio. - Ripple Effect, formerly known as DICE LA, is contributing to the main game's development while also creating a separate, new experience within the Battlefield universe.
