Copenhagen’s wider push

Copenhagen Fashion Week’s CEO said the city is positioning itself against elitism and toward a more open, accessible model — a values‑forward framing the city is using to define AW26 (glamour.es). At the same time CIFF announced a Paris showroom during Fashion Week to give Copenhagen brands international visibility, and trend coverage credits Scandi circles with spring staples like silk shorts and wedge sandals ( ).

Copenhagen is trying to sell more than clothes: it is pitching its fashion week as open, values-led, and export-ready. (copenhagenfashionweek.com; fashionunited.in) Cecilie Thorsmark, the chief executive officer of Copenhagen Fashion Week, told Glamour España that fashion can be “demasiado elitista,” or too elitist, as the city builds its Autumn/Winter 2026 identity. Copenhagen Fashion Week’s official site lists the Autumn/Winter 2026 season as running from January 27 to January 30, 2026. (glamour.es; copenhagenfashionweek.com) The commercial push is moving beyond Denmark. Copenhagen International Fashion Fair said on April 14 that it will open a curated showroom in Paris during the June 2026 men’s Fashion Week, in Le Marais, across three floors, with 15 to 20 selected brands. (fashionunited.in) That Paris move gives Copenhagen labels a sales platform inside the industry’s biggest market week, instead of waiting for buyers to travel north. Copenhagen International Fashion Fair describes itself as a major biannual trade platform, and its Bella Center showroom operation in Copenhagen says it hosts nearly 500 brands year-round. (fashionunited.in; ciff.dk; ciff.dk) Copenhagen has spent the past few years tying its image to rules as much as aesthetics. Since January 2023, brands have had to document compliance with Copenhagen Fashion Week’s minimum sustainability standards to qualify for the official show and presentation schedule. (copenhagenfashionweek.com) Those standards have kept tightening. Copenhagen Fashion Week said its first revisions added three new minimum standards and pushed more requirements from the commitment stage into implementation for the January 2025 admissions cycle. (copenhagenfashionweek.com) The framework is now traveling too. The British Fashion Council said it would adopt Copenhagen Fashion Week’s sustainability requirements for British Fashion Council NewGen, with full implementation from January 2026. (copenhagenfashionweek.com) At the same time, Scandinavian style is still feeding the consumer side of the story. Who What Wear said this week that silk shorts and wedge sandals are among the spring 2026 pieces circulating through Swedish and wider Scandinavian wardrobes. (whowhatwear.com) That leaves Copenhagen pushing on three fronts at once: a public message about access, a rulebook for brands, and a Paris sales base for labels that want a bigger audience. The city’s next official season, Spring/Summer 2027, is scheduled for August 3 to August 7, 2026. (copenhagenfashionweek.com; copenhagenfashionweek.com; fashionunited.in)
