MARATHON Launch Times Announced
The iconic sci-fi FPS MARATHON has officially announced its launch times, allowing fans to prepare for the much-anticipated release of this influential series' latest iteration. Specific time slots will vary by platform and region as the launch window approaches.
The new MARATHON is a revival of Bungie's classic 1994 trilogy, a series that predates both Halo and Destiny. The original game, released for the Apple Macintosh on December 21, 1994, was a landmark first-person shooter that introduced in-depth storytelling through in-game terminals. It is often considered a spiritual predecessor to Bungie's later work on the Halo series. This latest installment is not a direct remake but a reimagining of the universe, shifting genres to a sci-fi PvP extraction shooter. The game is set on the planet Tau Ceti IV in the year 2850, where 30,000 colonists have mysteriously vanished. Players will take on the roles of cybernetic mercenaries called "Runners," competing to gather resources and artifacts. The original trilogy consisted of *Marathon* (1994), *Marathon 2: Durandal* (1995), and *Marathon Infinity* (1996). While the first game was a Macintosh exclusive, its sequel, *Durandal*, was later ported to Windows 95. The entire original trilogy is now legally available for free on modern PCs thanks to a fan-maintained open-source engine called Aleph One. The upcoming title marks Bungie's first new game release in nine years and its first since being acquired by Sony Interactive Entertainment. It is scheduled for release on PlayStation 5, Windows, and Xbox Series X/S, and will feature cross-play and cross-save functionality between these platforms.
