BBC Launches Crookhaven Mystery Series
The BBC has released the first trailer for *Crookhaven*, a new "twisty mystery" series the network is calling "essential viewing for the whole family." The show stars familiar faces from *Coronation Street* and *Vigil* and promises a blend of suspense and family drama. The series targets audiences who enjoy accessible, cleverly plotted mysteries.
- The series is based on the popular children's book series of the same name by J.J. Arcanjo. The story is set in a secret school for thieves where students are taught skills like pickpocketing, lock-picking, and forgery to be used for good. - Dougray Scott, known for his roles in *Vigil* and *Mission: Impossible 2*, stars as Caspian Lockett, the enigmatic headmaster of Crookhaven. The cast also includes Keith Allen (*Trainspotting*) and Julie Hesmondhalgh (*Coronation Street*). - The plot centers on Gabriel, a talented young pickpocket, and his rivalry with the headmaster's daughter, Penelope, as they and other students compete for the "Crooked Cup." The students are divided into "Merits," selected for their talents, and "Legacies," who come from generations of master thieves. - The eight-part series was created for television by Justin Young, a writer known for his work on *Death in Paradise*. - Filming for the series took place in Northern Ireland. - While competing, the students must also confront a mysterious and dangerous threat known only as "The Nameless." - The show is scheduled to be released in the spring of 2026 and will be available on BBC One, CBBC, and BBC iPlayer.
