LA County Library is marking National Library Week with six days of free events for children, teens, and adults at branches across Los Angeles County through Friday, April 25. (lacountylibrary.org) The library system said the countywide lineup runs April 20-25, 2026, and includes storytimes, book discussions, art programs, mindfulness workshops, and teen activities. LA County Library tied the week to the 2026 theme, “Find Your Joy.” (lacountylibrary.org) Featured programs listed by the library include a discussion of *They Called Us Enemy* on Tuesday, April 21, a virtual author talk with Miranda Cowley Heller on Wednesday, April 22, and “Ms. Bits N Bobs Visits the Land of Imagination” on Saturday, April 25. Other events include “Tea for the Soul” on Friday, April 24, and “Teen Fridays” later that day. (lacountylibrary.org) Branch pages show the week is spread across local libraries, not a single central venue. Charter Oak Library scheduled a preschool arts program on April 21, and Lomita Library listed a “Planting Joy” event for ages 6 to 12 on April 22. (lacountylibrary.org) National Library Week itself runs April 19-25 this year and is sponsored by the American Library Association, which has observed it each April since 1958. The 2026 national theme is also “Find Your Joy.” (ala.org) LA County Library is using the week to point residents to year-round services alongside the special events. Its April programs page highlights Homework Centers at 30 participating locations and unlimited Libby downloads of *They Called Us Enemy* starting April 1 as part of the One Book, One Coast reading program. (lacountylibrary.org) County Librarian and Director Dr. Skye Patrick said in the announcement that the week is meant to showcase how people use libraries to read, learn skills, attend programs, and find a welcoming place to spend time. The library’s National Library Week page also frames the observance around free access to information and daily community use. (lacountylibrary.org, lacountylibrary.org) The events end Friday, April 25, but the library is keeping the broader push visible on its homepage and event calendar, where branch-by-branch listings and registration details remain posted.
