London Opens Egyptian Treasure Exhibition
London's Neon at Battersea Power Station hosts "Ramses & the Pharaoh's Gold," featuring 180+ Egyptian treasures over 3,000 years old in their first UK showing. The exhibition includes Ramesses II artifacts and VR immersion experiences, now open to the public. Ancient artifacts include items spanning multiple dynasties and offering unprecedented access to Egyptian royal collections.
The exhibition's journey to London is part of a major international tour that has already captivated audiences in cities including Houston, Paris, Sydney, and Tokyo. Before arriving at Battersea, the collection was on display in Tokyo until early January 2026. This global tour is a rare opportunity to see these artifacts, many of which have never before left Egypt. A centerpiece of the collection is the actual wooden coffin of Ramesses II. This is only the second time the coffin has been displayed outside of Egypt in modern times, the first being in Paris in the 1970s for conservation work. The pharaoh was originally buried in a series of golden coffins, but was re-interred in this cedar coffin nearly 200 years after his death following a tomb robbery. Beyond Ramesses II, who ruled for an exceptionally long 67 years, the exhibition features treasures from other dynasties. Visitors can see the solid gold funerary mask of King Amenemope and gold and silver coffins from the royal tombs of Tanis, which held the heirs of Ramesses II. The collection also includes animal mummies, intricate jewelry, and amulets. The virtual reality experience, titled "Ramses & Nefertari: Journey to Osiris," offers a tour of two of the pharaoh's most significant building projects. Participants can virtually fly through the temples of Abu Simbel and explore the tomb of his favorite wife, Queen Nefertari, in a cinematic motion chair. This animated journey also brings to life the Battle of Kadesh, the largest chariot battle ever fought.
