Gott's Roadside Opens First LA Location
Bay Area burger favorite Gott's Roadside opened its first Los Angeles location at The Grove, bringing its iconic California-style burgers and shakes to a new market. The expansion marks a significant move for the beloved regional chain known for its high-quality ingredients and roadside aesthetic.
The Napa Valley institution began in 1999 when brothers Joel and Duncan Gott took over a 50-year-old roadside burger shack in St. Helena called Taylor's Refresher. They reimagined it with a focus on high-quality, locally sourced ingredients, a concept that quickly earned a cult following. Before it was Gott's, the restaurant was named Taylor's Automatic Refresher. A trademark dispute with the original owner's family led to the rebranding as Gott's Roadside in 2010. The restaurant's high-quality take on American roadside classics earned it a prestigious James Beard Foundation Award, designating it as an "America's Classic." Beyond the standard burger, Gott's menu features California-inspired items like Ahi poke crispy tacos and a chicken schnitzel sandwich. They were also one of the early adopters of the plant-based Impossible Burger, adding it to their menu in 2017. The choice of The Grove for the first L.A. location is intentional, placing the Northern California favorite in a high-traffic, iconic Los Angeles destination. This marks the brand's first foray into Southern California, with a Santa Monica location planned to follow.
