WSU spring shows announced

Washington State University’s art museum announced four spring shows running March 31–June 27, including interactive installations that play with light and shifting forms — a fresh regional museum push starting next week. The opening slate was posted in recent campus arts announcements. (x.com)

The season opens with four named shows: Mimi Jung: An Unfinished Origin, Trimpin: Ambiente432, the Master of Fine Arts Thesis Exhibition, and Longer Light: Selections from the Collection. (museum.wsu.edu)) Mimi Jung’s presentation gathers recent loom-based sculptural works that incorporate unconventional wefts such as paper and foam and includes cast-metal pieces; Jung is based in Helena, Montana. (museum.wsu.edu)) An artist talk with Mimi Jung is scheduled for March 31 at 4:00 p.m., followed by a gallery reception. (museum.wsu.edu)) The MFA Thesis Exhibition showcases three graduate candidates — Keegan Baatz, S. Camille Comer, and Kahyun (Kate) Uhm — whose work represents the culmination of their WSU studio practice. (museum.wsu.edu)) MFA Thesis artist talks and an opening reception are planned for Family Weekend on April 17, with talks 3:00–4:00 p.m. and a reception 4:00–6:00 p.m. that day. (news.wsu.edu)) Trimpin: Ambiente432 is a site-responsive kinetic-sound work the museum commissioned for its 2016 inauguration; the piece consists of 12 motion-responsive resonator horns suspended from the ceiling and is tuned precisely to 432 Hz. (museum.wsu.edu)) The installation is activated by visitor movement, making the audience the primary performer in the sound-space. (museum.wsu.edu)) Longer Light: Selections from the Collection draws from the museum’s permanent holdings with special emphasis on its growing photography and lens-based practices, and the exhibition’s production is supported by the Samuel H. and Patricia W. Smith Endowment, the Holland Orton Endowment, and friends of the museum. (museum.wsu.edu)) The Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art WSU is housed in the on-campus “Crimson Cube” at 1535 NE Wilson Road, offers free admission, and is open Tuesday–Saturday, 10:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m., with free guided tours available to school and community groups by request.
