Apple Rolls Out Major OS Updates Across All Platforms

Apple has released a wave of major OS updates, including iOS 18.1, iPadOS 18.1, macOS 15.1, watchOS 11.1, and tvOS 18.1. The new macOS Sequoia 15.1 notably brings Apple Intelligence to the Mac and adds iPhone Mirroring with drag-and-drop. Meanwhile, visionOS 2.1 has also officially exited beta, signaling a new level of maturity for the spatial computing platform.

The initial rollout of Apple Intelligence in macOS Sequoia 15.1 is limited to Macs with M-series chips and requires Siri to be set to U.S. English. This release includes system-wide Writing Tools for rewriting and proofreading, a redesigned Siri that can maintain context between requests, and intelligent notification summaries. iPhone Mirroring now supports drag-and-drop file transfers between the Mac and iPhone, a key feature demonstrated at WWDC that was not present in the initial macOS Sequoia release. The feature establishes a point-to-point connection using Wi-Fi and Bluetooth and requires an Apple Silicon or T2 Security Chip-equipped Mac. iPhone notifications are integrated directly into the Mac's Notification Center. For developers, visionOS 2 introduced significant new enterprise APIs, including programmatic access to the main camera, spatial barcode and QR code scanning, and direct access to the Apple Neural Engine for machine learning tasks. Tools like TabletopKit are also available to simplify the creation of shared, collaborative experiences. The iOS 18.1 update brings several developer-focused changes, including new Control Center toggles for Wi-Fi and VPN and a reset option for customized layouts. The update also includes the ability to record, transcribe, and summarize phone calls directly within the Phone app, a feature now extended to all iPhones compatible with iOS 18. While watchOS 11.1 and tvOS 18.1 were released concurrently, they are primarily minor updates focused on bug fixes and stability improvements. Unlike their macOS and iOS counterparts, these updates do not yet include any Apple Intelligence features. The watchOS 11.1 SDK, bundled with Xcode 16.1, resolves issues related to StoreKit, SwiftUI, and WidgetKit.
