Hyundai has launched its IONIQ lineup brand in China and used two new concept cars, Venus and Earth, to show where its next electric models could go. (hyundai.com) The company unveiled the concepts on April 10 at Hyundai Motorstudio Beijing, ahead of Auto China 2026 later in April. Hyundai described Venus as a sedan and Earth as a family sport utility vehicle, both developed for China’s new energy vehicle market. (hyundai.com) The move is part of a reset in the world’s largest electric-vehicle market, where Hyundai has struggled to keep pace with local brands. CarNewsChina said the launch marked IONIQ’s formal entry into China with what Hyundai called an “IONIQ Universe” around the brand. (carnewschina.com) China has become the center of the global electric-car fight, with domestic makers pushing fast model cycles, lower prices and software-heavy cabins. Hyundai said its China strategy will expand IONIQ beyond vehicles into retail, service and customer experiences tailored to local buyers. (hyundai.news) The concepts also point to a design shift. Autocar reported the pair preview a more angular, more cohesive look for future IONIQ models, moving away from some of the rounded forms used on current cars such as the IONIQ 5 and IONIQ 6. (autocar.co.uk) Early coverage described Venus as the more dramatic of the two, with a low, wedge-shaped profile, while Earth was presented as the more practical model aimed at family use. Electrek reported that Hyundai framed the pair as the first step in broadening the IONIQ range in China. (electrek.co) Hyundai had already shown another concept, the Boulder sport utility vehicle, at the 2026 New York International Auto Show. Autoblog reported that the Earth and Venus teasers followed that reveal, suggesting Hyundai is using multiple concept cars to test and signal different design directions at once. (autoblog.com) For now, Hyundai has not announced production dates, battery sizes or range figures for Venus or Earth. What it has announced is the market: China first, with IONIQ positioned as the spearhead of Hyundai’s next electric push there. (hyundai.com)
