Microsoft Fixes Windows 11 Restart Loop Bug

Microsoft has resolved an issue with its Windows 11 KB5077181 update that was causing some devices to enter infinite restart loops. A follow-up fix has been released, addressing the critical problem for IT professionals and users managing multiple systems.

- The KB5077181 update, released around February 10, 2026, was intended to resolve a previous "UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME" error on some commercial systems. - In addition to the restart loops, the update caused a range of other issues for users, including installation failures with error codes like 0x800F0991 and 0x800F0983, and DHCP errors that blocked internet access. - Some users reported their devices restarting more than 15 times, effectively locking them out of their systems. - The update was also meant to address bugs affecting gaming performance and a black screen issue on systems with certain Nvidia GPUs that was introduced in a January 2026 update. - The problems primarily impacted devices running Windows 11 versions 24H2 and 25H2. - Prior to the official fix, the only reliable solution for many affected users was to uninstall the update and pause the Windows Update service to prevent it from reinstalling automatically.
