Largest H Mart in US Coming to Fremont

The popular Korean supermarket chain H Mart is set to open its largest U.S. location in Fremont, California. The new store will offer a massive selection of Korean and international groceries to the city's diverse community, though an official opening date has not yet been announced.

The new 100,000-square-foot, two-story H Mart will be located in the Pacific Commons Shopping Center, taking over a former Kohl's building at 43782 Christy St. This project represents the largest investment in the company's history and will serve as the flagship for a new multi-level store prototype. Construction is expected to begin in late 2026 on what will be more than just a grocery store. Plans include a food hall with a mix of fast-casual and full-service restaurants, a bar, and entertainment offerings, a first-of-its-kind concept for the chain. Fremont is a strategic location for this flagship store, as the city's population is over 60% Asian. This new H Mart will be the company's fourth location in the Bay Area, with other stores in San Francisco, San Jose, and one planned for Dublin. The chain, which started as a single corner store in Woodside, Queens, in 1982, has grown to over 100 stores across the U.S. The name "H Mart" comes from the Korean phrase "Han Ah Reum," which means "one armful."
