Major League Volleyball Gets First Commissioner

Major League Volleyball has appointed Jaime Weston as its first-ever Commissioner. The move comes as the league enters its third season, signaling a new era of professionalization for women's volleyball in the United States.

Weston's appointment comes after a period of significant structural change for the league. The current Major League Volleyball is the result of a 2025 merger between two entities: the Pro Volleyball Federation (PVF) and a group that had planned a rival league also named Major League Volleyball. The unified league is now entering what is officially considered its third season, building on the foundation of the PVF's first two campaigns. The league's establishment of a commissioner role signals a move towards a more centralized governance structure, similar to other major American professional sports. This step is aimed at providing stability and a unified vision to support the league's commercial growth and national expansion. The league has already seen substantial engagement, with attendance surpassing 750,000 and an inaugural All-Star Match drawing a peak viewership of 445,000 on CBS. Weston brings over 15 years of executive experience from the NFL, where she was instrumental in growing the fan base and modernizing the brand. Her background includes directing brand management, creative services, and fan development for one of the most powerful sports properties in America. More recently, she served as the Chief Commercial Officer for USA Volleyball, connecting her directly to the sport's national governing body. The league is poised for growth, with plans to add expansion teams in Northern California, Washington D.C., and Minneapolis-St. Paul for the 2027 season. This growth is backed by high-profile investors, including Sacramento Kings owner Vivek Ranadivé and the controlling partners of Major League Soccer's D.C. United. The investment reflects the rising interest in professional women's volleyball, a sport that is number one for girls in the United States and has seen double-digit growth in participation since 2021.
