Fighting Game Community Gets Major Updates

The fighting game community is experiencing major excitement with Evo Mexico, new Marvel vs. Capcom, Arc System Works' Shonen Jump collaboration, Dragon Ball FighterZ patch, KOF 16 announcements, and rumors of a Darkstalkers remake. Cristiano Ronaldo's involvement with Fatal Fury has also generated significant buzz in the FGC.

The Evolution Championship Series, better known as Evo, is expanding its global footprint. Beginning in 2027, the premier fighting game tournament will add new events in Mexico, Brazil, Morocco, Saudi Arabia, and China, joining its established locations in the United States, Japan, and France. The latest patch for Dragon Ball FighterZ, version 1.42, introduced a series of bug fixes and character balance adjustments. Notable changes include a significant "nerf" to Ultra Instinct Goku by adding a meter penalty to one of his key moves, while characters like Frieza, Krillin, and Videl received buffs to their move sets. While a new mainline Marvel vs. Capcom has not been officially announced, the recently released *Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics* is seen as a test by Capcom to gauge fan interest after the disappointing sales of 2017's *Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite*. Separately, Arc System Works is developing *Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls*, a 4v4 tag fighter scheduled for a 2026 release. The rumors of a new Darkstalkers title are fueled by the game's inclusion in the official lineup for both Evo Japan and Evo Las Vegas in 2026. Capcom has been hesitant to develop a new entry since the 2013 *Darkstalkers Resurrection* collection failed to meet sales targets, but the company has recently expressed a desire to revive dormant franchises. Following the success of Dragon Ball FighterZ, developer Arc System Works is partnering with Bushiroad Games to release a 3v3 fighting game based on the popular Shonen Jump series *Hunter x Hunter*. The title, *HUNTER×HUNTER NEN×IMPACT*, has already had playable demos at events like EVO Japan. Cristiano Ronaldo's appearance in *Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves* is more than just a cameo; he is a fully playable character. The collaboration is speculated to be connected to developer SNK's ownership by Saudi Arabia's MiSK Foundation, as Ronaldo has been playing for the Saudi club Al-Nassr since 2023. A free update provided five new color schemes for his character, reflecting real-world teams he has played for.
