SIR promotes Global Summit

The Society of Interventional Radiology promoted its upcoming Global Summit as a cross-society forum focused on patient-centered interventional-radiology advances. The post emphasized collaboration across specialties and societies rather than a single-organization conference pitch. (x.com)

Interventional radiology is a branch of medicine that treats disease through tiny, image-guided procedures, and the Society of Interventional Radiology is using its 2026 meeting to pitch a global forum around that model of care. (sirweb.org) The group said the Global Interventional Radiology Summit will give its “global strategic societal partners” a shared podium at the Society of Interventional Radiology 2026 Annual Scientific Meeting in Toronto. The meeting runs April 11-15, 2026, at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre. (sirweb.org 1) (sirweb.org 2) The Society of Interventional Radiology said the summit is meant to show how visible interventional radiology is in different regions and to let societies compare collaboration plans. Its stated goal is to strengthen the specialty and improve patient-centered care through image-guided therapy and minimally invasive treatment. (sirweb.org) That pitch comes as the society frames its 2026 annual meeting around collaboration, using the theme “Creating communities. Transforming care.” The meeting website says attendees will gather to share research, new methods and clinical ideas across the specialty. (sirweb.org) (sirmeeting.org) The emphasis on cross-border organizing follows earlier efforts to give national and regional societies a common stage. Interventional News reported in 2024 that a “Global Society Summit” brought together 13 panelists from societies on every continent to discuss shared challenges and a more unified voice for interventional radiology. (interventionalnews.com) The Society of Interventional Radiology is one of the field’s largest professional groups, describing itself as a nonprofit medical society representing more than 8,000 physicians, trainees, students, scientists and clinical associates. That scale gives its annual meeting outsized weight when it decides to spotlight a topic such as international coordination. (sirweb.org) The society has also built other globally themed sessions around the Toronto meeting. A recent Society of Interventional Radiology podcast episode promoted the Global Interventional Radiology Summit alongside “Global NextGen IRs Connect” and a session on mapping worldwide need for emergent uterine artery embolization. (sirweb.org) In practice, the summit is less a standalone conference than a dedicated forum inside the Society of Interventional Radiology’s main annual meeting. The message from the society’s April 2 announcement was that the field’s next push will be organized across societies and regions, not only within one national group. (sirweb.org)
