Tales of Berseria Remastered Launches Today

Tales of Berseria Remastered is now available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, and Switch with enhanced gameplay and bundled DLC. The remaster aims to bring both returning fans and newcomers into the franchise's emotional journey.

The original *Tales of Berseria* launched in Japan on August 18, 2016, for the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4, before its worldwide release on PS4 and PC in January 2017. The game was the sixteenth main entry in the long-running *Tales* series and received positive reviews, with critics praising its emotional story and darker tone. The narrative centers on Velvet Crowe, the series' first solo female protagonist, whose quest for revenge drives the plot. The game's central theme explores the conflict between emotion and reason, a departure from the more traditional "save the world" quests of many JRPGs. This focus on personal vengeance and a cast of anti-hero characters was a key point of praise. *Tales of Berseria* serves as a distant prequel to *Tales of Zestiria*, with its story unfolding 1,000 years before the events of the latter game. This connection was designed to be appreciated by fans of the series, providing background lore on concepts like "Malevolence" and the origins of the Seraphim (known as Malakim in *Berseria*), without being essential for new players to understand the plot. Upon its initial release, the game garnered a strong reception for its compelling characters and refined combat system. As of December 2024, *Tales of Berseria* has sold over 2.5 million copies worldwide, with more than half of those sales coming from North America and Europe.
