Middle East Conflict Threatens F1 Races

Formula 1's Bahrain and Saudi Arabian Grands Prix face potential cancellation due to escalating Middle East tensions [https://www.freepressjournal.in/sports/formula-1-will-bahrain-saudi-grand-prix-get-cancelled-due-to-ongoing-middle-east-tensions]. Organizers are bracing for security and logistical disruptions.

The Bahrain Grand Prix, scheduled for April 12, is increasingly unlikely to proceed due to the escalating conflict in the Gulf region. Promoters in Saudi Arabia are reportedly still trying to save the Jeddah event, set for April 19. Iran has launched missile and drone attacks against targets in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia, including the US Navy's Fifth Fleet base in Manama and an Aramco refinery. Aramco is a major partner of F1 and a key sponsor of Aston Martin, adding another layer of concern. A recent Pirelli tire test planned in Bahrain was canceled due to security concerns. Logistics are further complicated as all freight is transported to Bahrain first before moving to Saudi Arabia. A decision on whether to cancel the two races is expected by March 20. If Bahrain is canceled, the 2026 F1 calendar would drop from 24 to 23 races; if Saudi Arabia is also canceled, it would shrink to 22. F1 has no replacement races prepared to fill the potential gaps. Imola has been mentioned as a possible reserve option.
