H Mart to Open Largest US Store in Fremont
The popular Korean supermarket chain H Mart is preparing to open its largest U.S. location in Fremont. The new store will feature a wide selection of Korean and Asian groceries, produce, and prepared foods.
- The new Fremont location will be a two-story, 100,000-square-foot building, making it the largest H Mart in the United States. - This store represents the largest single investment in the company's history and will be the first of a new "multi-level prototype." - In addition to the grocery store, the second floor is planned to feature a food hall, dine-in restaurants, a bar, and other entertainment offerings. - The store will be located in the Pacific Commons Shopping Center at 43782 Christy St., taking over a building formerly occupied by a Kohl's department store. - Construction is slated to begin in late 2026, with the company projecting a potential opening in late 2027. - This opening is part of a broader expansion by the grocery chain, which now operates over 100 stores in the U.S. and recently expanded into Florida. - The project involves the "innovative reuse of a vacant large-format retail space," a strategy supported by Fremont Mayor Raj Salwan to revitalize commercial properties. - H Mart has been expanding its Bay Area presence, having purchased the Oceanview Village Shopping Center in San Francisco for $37 million in 2024, where it also operates a store.
