Walthamstow Fox Mural Goes Interactive
Higham Hill alleyway in Walthamstow, London has been transformed with a vibrant fox mural featuring pollinator-friendly planters and augmented reality features. South-west London unveiled a new mural commemorating David Bowie's first performance as Ziggy Stardust. A crowdfunder launched in Manchester aims to create a large-scale mural honoring Mani from Stone Roses and Primal Scream.
- The Walthamstow fox mural, located in an alleyway between Clarence Road and Gloucester Road, was a collaborative project led by The Digital Story Company. The design, created by artist Tom Jackson of Wood Street Walls and animator Maggie Nightingale, was inspired by local residents' stories of urban nature. - The project included paid training roles for two young people transitioning out of foster care, who assisted with workshops and the mural's creation. Community workshops allowed residents and young people to contribute ideas and create puppets for an animated film that accompanies the mural. - The David Bowie mural is located at the Tolworth Roundabout and commemorates his first performance as Ziggy Stardust at the now-demolished Toby Jug pub in Tolworth on February 10, 1972. - The unveiling of the Bowie mural coincided with the release of three Sussex cattle into a nearby 42-hectare nature reserve, Tolworth Court Farm Fields, as part of the Wild Tolworth rewilding project. - The crowdfunder for a mural of Gary 'Mani' Mounfield aims to have the artwork painted in Failsworth, the area of Manchester where the late Stone Roses and Primal Scream bassist grew up. - The Mani mural will be created by artist Pic.One.Art, known for a recent portrait of Noel and Liam Gallagher, with the final design selected by Mani's brother, Greg Mounfield. - All profits from the 'Mural for Mani' crowdfunder, organized by the not-for-profit arts organization GRIT Studios, will be donated to Maggie's Centre Manchester, a charity that was important to Mani and his wife, Imelda.
