Arnold Strongman Classic Tied After Day 1
Mitchell Hooper and Austin Andrade are tied for the lead at 23.5 points after day one of the 2026 Arnold Strongman Classic in Columbus. The prestigious competition features nine athletes across multiple events. In the women's division, Olga Liashchuk and Angelica Jardine are also tied at the top after the first day.
Mitchell "The Moose" Hooper, the reigning three-time Arnold Strongman Classic champion, finds himself in a dead heat after a grueling first day of competition. Hooper won the opening event, the Elephant Bar Deadlift, with a massive 981-pound pull. However, a shared first-place finish in the Cyr Dumbbell Challenge and a fifth-place finish in the Stone to Shoulder have left him tied with a formidable opponent. Austin Andrade, a rapidly rising star in the strongman world, matched Hooper's 23.5 points through remarkable consistency. The American from Texas secured a second-place finish in the deadlift with a 976-pound lift and then won the final event of the day, the Stone to Shoulder, with three powerful repetitions. This performance at his first Arnold Strongman Classic signals a serious challenge to Hooper's dominance. In the women's division, the battle for the top spot is just as fierce. Olga Liashchuk of Ukraine and American Angelica Jardine are knotted at 25 points each. Liashchuk, a two-time champion of this event, showed her veteran poise with strong finishes across the board, including a third-place in the Elephant Bar Deadlift with a 621-pound pull. Angelica Jardine, the 2024 champion, kept pace with Liashchuk by winning the day's final event, the Stone to Shoulder. The day was also marked by a historic moment as Lucy Underdown of Great Britain set a new Elephant Bar Deadlift world record with an incredible 701-pound lift. The championships will be decided on the final day with three more demanding events for both the men and women. The men will face the Stone Drag, Austrian Oak, and a Ramp Rage loading race. The women will also tackle the Stone Drag, followed by the American Oak and the Ramp Rage, setting the stage for a dramatic conclusion to the prestigious competition.
