AI Engineering Startups Attract Fresh Capital

Bay Area investors continue to fund AI-native engineering platforms. Flux, an "AI hardware engineer," raised $37M to automate circuit board development, while Autosana, an agentic QA platform, secured $3.2M to replace manual software testing.

Flux's funding was a combined Series A and B, with the $27M Series B led by 8VC and a previously undisclosed $10M Series A led by Outsiders Fund. The company aims to automate the entire circuit board design process, from layout and component sourcing to testing and manufacturing file generation, all initiated through natural language prompts in a web browser. Over one million users have already created nearly 6.5 million projects on the platform. Autosana's seed round saw participation from Y Combinator, Pioneer Fund, and angel investors like Paul Graham. Founded by serial entrepreneurs Yuvan Sundrani and Jason Steinberg, the company's platform allows quality assurance teams to describe test scenarios in natural language, which AI agents then execute across iOS, Android, and web apps. Since its launch in June 2025, Autosana has seen revenue grow over 100% each month. This investment trend highlights the rise of "agentic AI," systems that move beyond passive generation to autonomously perform complex, multi-step tasks with limited human supervision. Unlike simple code assistants, these agents can understand objectives, interact with tools and APIs, and make decisions to achieve a goal, fundamentally changing development workflows. Gartner has identified agentic AI as a top strategic technology trend. The venture capital landscape is increasingly prioritizing AI, with AI-focused startups capturing a disproportionate 34% of all VC funding. In 2025, VC investments in AI firms globally reached $258.7 billion, accounting for 61% of all venture capital, a significant jump from 30% in 2022. This surge is particularly pronounced in generative AI, which saw a funding increase from $2.8 billion to $15.3 billion between 2022 and 2023 alone.
