Carrefour Ends Pricer's Exclusive Supplier Deal
Swedish retail tech company Pricer will no longer be the exclusive supplier of electronic shelf labels (ESL) to the French retail group Carrefour. Carrefour has decided to introduce an additional supplier for its digital in-store solutions in France. Pricer will continue as a partner to the retailer.
- The prior exclusive agreement between Carrefour and Pricer was a three-year deal signed in April 2023, building on a partnership that has spanned over two decades. - Carrefour has selected Vusion as the new, additional supplier to help digitalize all its hypermarkets and supermarkets in France by 2030 as part of the "Carrefour 2030" strategic plan. This new partnership will include the deployment of electronic shelf labels, smart rails, and AI-driven cameras. - For Pricer, sales to Carrefour in 2025 accounted for less than 10% of total net sales, with a mid-single-digit contribution to gross profit. Following this decision, Pricer anticipates its gross profit contribution from Carrefour will drop to a low-single-digit figure in 2026. - This supplier change is part of Carrefour's broader "Digital Retail Strategy 2026," which involves a €3 billion investment in digital transformation between 2022 and 2026. The strategy aims to triple e-commerce Gross Merchandise Value to €10 billion and add €600 million to recurring operating income by 2026. - The overall Electronic Shelf Label (ESL) market is projected to grow significantly, with forecasts expecting it to reach between $3.78 billion and $12.98 billion by the early 2030s, driven by retail automation and the adoption of IoT and AI. - Pricer will continue to be a key partner for Carrefour, servicing the more than 1,200 stores in France already equipped with its technology. - A significant portion of Pricer's business with Carrefour comes from its growing network of franchise stores. In 2025, over 70% of Pricer's sales to Carrefour in France, Belgium, and Spain were to these franchisees, a segment where Pricer sees continued opportunity. - As part of the new agreement with Vusion, Carrefour will join Vusion's international advisory board, and the two companies will establish a joint laboratory called the "Next Retail Experience Centre" to focus on AI applications in retail.
