Walmart Grills Sale for Spring Season

Walmart is offering major discounts on grills—some as low as $20—making it an opportune time to prepare for outdoor grilling season as spring approaches. The timing coincides with bacon texture debates (crispy vs. chewy) sparking engagement on BBQ social media, alongside work BBQs fueling gym sessions and prep tips for group grills.

While most major grill discounts typically appear after the 4th of July, this pre-season sale from Walmart runs counter to standard retail cycles. Retailers usually save the biggest markdowns for the end of summer and fall, from Labor Day through Black Friday, to clear out old inventory. Walmart leads all U.S. retailers in the number of grills sold, capturing 26% of the market's unit share as of March 2024. However, its 15% share of the market's total dollar value, behind Home Depot's 22% and Lowe's 20%, points to its focus on high-volume, budget-friendly models. The global market for grills was valued at $5.8 billion in 2025 and is forecasted to grow to $6.3 billion in 2026. This expansion is supported by high market penetration, with over 65% of households in the United States owning a grill or smoker. The sale's lowest-priced grills are likely basic charcoal models, which can often be purchased for under $100. Gas grills represent a higher initial investment, typically starting at $200, but offer lower long-term fuel costs compared to the recurring expense of charcoal bags. A major trend for 2026 is the integration of smart technology in grilling. Manufacturers are increasingly adding features like Wi-Fi connectivity and precision temperature controls that can be managed through mobile apps, catering to a demand for convenience and consistent results. The market has also seen shifts in brand popularity. While Weber remains a top name, Blackstone has significantly increased its market share, overtaking Char-Broil in units sold. Meanwhile, wood-fired pellet grills from brands like Traeger continue to grow in popularity for their ease of use in long smoking sessions.
