Freeform Raises $67M for AI-Native Manufacturing

AI-native manufacturing startup Freeform has closed a $67 million Series B funding round. The company focuses on automating advanced metal additive production and related supply chain workflows. The new capital will be used to accelerate the development and deployment of its scalable manufacturing platform.

- The company was founded by former SpaceX engineers Erik Palitsch and Thomas Ronacher, who identified the need for higher-volume, flexible, and intelligent metal 3D printing during their time developing rocket engines. - This latest Series B round brings Freeform's total funding to over $120 million, following a $45 million round when the company emerged from stealth in 2023 and a $14 million investment in 2024. - Key investors in the Series B round include Founders Fund, AE Ventures, and NVIDIA's venture capital arm, NVentures. - Freeform's business model is "manufacturing as a service," meaning they produce and supply parts for clients rather than selling the printing hardware itself. - The new funding is intended to help transition from their current "GoldenEye" printing system, which uses 18 lasers, to the next-generation "Skyfall" platform that will utilize hundreds of lasers. - The company's proprietary technology integrates robotics, advanced sensing, and machine learning to create a scalable and autonomous factory system. - Freeform is already supplying mission-critical parts to companies in sectors such as aerospace, automotive, and advanced energy, with clients including Ursa Major, an aerospace company. - The introduction of the "Skyfall" factory platform, expected to be live in the first half of 2026, is projected to increase Freeform's production capacity by approximately 25 times and expand its material offerings by a factor of ten.
