Hot Sauce Brand Heatonist's Rise

Heatonist, the official hot sauce partner for the show "Hot Ones," has become the #1 brand on Amazon after starting as a Brooklyn pushcart. In a recent podcast, founder Noah Chaimberg explained how he leveraged a passion-driven niche and strategic use of Amazon Business to build an e-commerce powerhouse.

Heatonist was founded in 2013 by former advertising professional Noah Chaimberg, who started the business with a pushcart in Brooklyn markets. The core concept was to create a "try before you buy" experience for craft hot sauces, focusing on unique flavors rather than just extreme heat. The pivotal partnership with the YouTube interview show "Hot Ones" began in 2015 when the show's producers asked Heatonist to help curate the lineup of sauces. Beyond curating, Heatonist now co-creates the show's signature sauces, including the infamous "The Last Dab." Heatonist's selection process for all its sauces, including those featured on the show, adheres to a strict all-natural standard, excluding artificial preservatives, thickeners, and capsaicin extracts. This focus on small-batch makers has allowed them to introduce a wide array of unique ingredients not commonly found in mass-market hot sauces. Before its recent major retail push, the company's direct-to-consumer model relied on its popular online store and two physical tasting rooms in New York City: a flagship in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, and an outpost in Chelsea Market. In a significant expansion announced in 2024, Heatonist rolled out its products to over 8,000 retail stores across the United States. This brought their sauces to the shelves of major grocers including Kroger, Whole Foods, Publix, and Meijer. The move into national retail created more than 30,000 new points of distribution for the brand's products. Previously, outside of Heatonist's own channels, the sauces were only available in select Walmart stores. The company frequently collaborates on unique flavors with a diverse range of partners. These have included sauces developed with the rock band KoRn, UFC fighter Dustin Poirier, and YouTube personalities from the Try Guys and Santagato Studios. [cite: 1, 1
