Seattle Restaurant Landscape Shifts
The Asean Streat Food Hall in Seattle has been evicted, marking another change in the city's restaurant scene. The closure coincides with other shifts in the culinary landscape. Notably, restaurateur Renee Erickson is planning to open a new establishment named Jeffry's in the area.
- Renee Erickson's new restaurant, Jeffry's, is a reimagining of her former Capitol Hill steakhouse, Bateau, and is set to open on March 11. It will feature a "Humble Cuts" program offering more affordable and lesser-known cuts of beef. - The Asean Streat Food Hall, which opened in Westlake Center in November 2022, was served an eviction notice and permanently closed on February 13, 2026. In 2023, the food hall's manager had reported dealing with safety issues in the area. - Jeffry's will merge the former Bateau and the connected Boat Bar into a single steakhouse, while the adjacent General Porpoise space will be converted into a private dining room. The restaurant group has stated that former union employees will be welcomed back. - Another significant opening is the Renton-based coffee roaster Boon Boona, which recently launched its fifth shop in a high-profile spot on Seattle's waterfront Overlook Walk. - The downtown Charter Hotel is also adding to the dining landscape with a new seafood restaurant named Cinder + Salt, expected to open in April. - Other recent closures in the city include the Capitol Hill location of U:Don Fresh noodle shop, which closed at the end of January, though its University District location remains open. - The end of 2025 saw several notable restaurant shutdowns, including The Whale Wins, another Renee Erickson establishment which cited rising costs, as well as the popular Middle Eastern restaurant Mamnoon after a 13-year run.
