EDGE AI Foundation Forms Defense Working Group

The EDGE AI FOUNDATION has announced the formation of a Defense Working Group to advance AI capabilities for government operations. Its mission is to accelerate the adoption of mission-critical AI in the defense sector.

- The founding members of the Defense Working Group include Qualcomm, Wind River, Dell Technologies, Syntiant, Expanso, and Embedl. - The group is chaired by Sek Chai, the co-founder and CTO of Latent AI. - The global market for edge computing in defense is valued at $4.76 billion in 2024 and is projected to grow to $19.05 billion by 2034. - The working group's objectives are to address technical challenges in mission-critical applications and to raise awareness of edge AI within defense policy circles. - This initiative aligns with the U.S. Department of Defense's broader strategy to accelerate the adoption of AI, for which it has requested nearly $12 billion for 2026. - The EDGE AI Foundation, formerly the tinyML Foundation, has a community that includes over 100 Fortune 500 technology companies. - The foundation will hold its first EDGE AI Defense Symposium in collaboration with Johns Hopkins University on May 27, 2026, in Washington, D.C. - North America currently represents the largest market for military edge computing, accounting for approximately 45% of the global share.
