March 2026 Sci-Fi Releases Highlighted

Book curator Amy Allen Clark has compiled two comprehensive guides for 2026 featuring 43 debut titles and 47 new releases from established authors. Publishers and readers are noting that 2025's books were often unnecessarily long, with romance novels exceeding 500 pages well beyond the ideal 300-page length. Brandon Sanderson's *The Way of Kings* remains a highly recommended entry point for epic world-building and intricate magic systems.

Among the 47 new releases from established authors is Adrian Tchaikovsky's *Children of Strife*, the fourth book in his award-winning *Children of Time* series. The story follows a spacefaring crew of humans, intelligent spiders, and a mantis shrimp captain who discover a lost terraformed world. Jenn Lyons also has a standalone fantasy novel, *Green and Deadly Things*, set for a March 3rd release. The plot centers on a knight-in-training who awakens an ancient necromancer to combat a magical threat that turns forests into monsters. The conversation around book length is evolving, with some data suggesting a trend towards longer novels. However, the ideal length often varies by genre. While some "romantasy" novels can exceed 120,000 words, many traditional romance novels fall between 50,000 and 90,000 words. Brandon Sanderson's epic, *The Way of Kings*, clocks in at a substantial 383,389 words. The entire *Stormlight Archive* series, of which it is the first book, contains some of the longest works in the fantasy genre. Book curator Amy Allen Clark is the host of the *Book Gang* podcast and creator of the MomAdvice community. Her work often highlights debut authors, under-the-radar books, and backlist titles, aiming to help readers discover a wide range of books beyond the bestseller lists.
