Fremont is closing out Arts, Culture and Creativity Month with a new Artists’ Pop-Up Market at the Downtown Event Center on Sunday, April 26. (fremont.gov) The market is scheduled for 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Fremont Downtown Event Center and Plaza, 3500 Capitol Ave. City event listings say Fremont Creates is producing the event. (fremont.gov) Fremont Creates says more than 25 local artists will display and sell work directly to the public, and admission is free. The group’s event page also lists live music by the Newark Saxophone Quartet. (fremontcreates.com) The April 26 program extends beyond shopping. Fremont Creates says Wadaiko Newark taiko drummers will perform outside, a makerspace will be open for families and children, and two hands-on workshops are planned for adults ages 15 and older. (tricityvoice.com) The event lands at the end of California’s Arts, Culture and Creativity Month, a statewide observance that California for the Arts says was established through a California Senate resolution in 2019. Fremont Creates says the local campaign was founded in 2023. (fremontculturalartscouncil.org, tricityvoice.com) This year’s Fremont campaign is organized around the theme “Create, Connect, Celebrate,” with April programming that has included public art, community projects and cultural events across the city. Fremont Creates described the month as a platform for artists, nonprofits and creative businesses in Fremont. (tricityvoice.com) The pop-up market is also new this year. Fremont Creates’ event pages describe it as a first-time addition to the month’s calendar and invited local artists to apply for selling space. (fremontcreates.com, fremontcreates.com) For artists, the organization required a $50 deposit to register, with refunds tied to meeting participation requirements after the event. For visitors, the pitch is simpler: browse, buy and meet the people making the work. (fremontcreates.com) The final weekend of the month is being framed as a larger downtown arts push. Tri-City Voice reported that the City of Fremont will also hold a free “Downtown Dance” event at the same venue on Saturday, April 25. (tricityvoice.com) By Sunday afternoon, Fremont’s monthlong arts celebration is set to end where many civic arts campaigns try to land: with local artists in one room, selling their work face to face.
