Chinese EV Tech Advancing
Chinese EV tech is rapidly advancing with 900V systems, 1.5MW charging, 1000km ranges, and FSD becoming standard.
BYD has launched a new EV charger that can charge an EV from 10% to 97% in nine minutes. This "Flash Charging" system delivers up to 1.5MW through a single connector when paired with BYD's second-generation Blade Battery. BYD has already installed 4,239 Flash Charging stations across China and expects to have 20,000 in operation by the end of this year. Several Chinese EVs now boast ranges exceeding 1,000 km under the CLTC testing cycle. The Denza Z9 EV leads with a 1,068 km range, followed by the Denza Z9 GT EV (1,036 km) and the Yangwang U7 EV (1,006 km). These models all feature battery packs exceeding 120 kWh, indicating that current long-range performance is primarily driven by battery size. NIO's "Thunder" 900V electric drive system can add over 150 miles (255 km) with a five-minute fast charge. The first car featuring Flash Charging and the second-gen Blade Battery will be the DENZA Z9GT, from BYD's premium brand. The Lotus Eletre X adopts the X-Hybrid platform with a 900V high-voltage system. Chinese EVs are also making strides in autonomous driving. Some users have found Tesla's Full Self-Driving (FSD) feature in China to be underwhelming compared to domestic options like Xpeng's P7. Tesla has rolled out city road Navigate on Autopilot (City NOA) features in China.
