13-Year-Old Breaks Powerlifting Records

Nash Earwood, nicknamed 'Big Nash,' just broke state records in bench press, deadlift, squat, and total weight at the Georgia Powerlifting State Championships. His total plates topped 1,000 pounds — drawing serious attention to the next generation of strength athletes at just 13 years old.

This phenom's journey to the top of the state's powerlifting scene was remarkably swift. Nash Earwood first began training with coach Terrence Flowers at 4.0 Fitness in Columbus, Georgia, with the initial goal of conditioning for football. It was there that Flowers quickly identified his extraordinary potential for powerlifting. His raw talent was evident from an early age. According to his father, Ryan Earwood, a then four-year-old Nash once stunned him by picking up and carrying a heavy cinder block across their driveway. This innate strength became the foundation for his future in competitive lifting. Even before his latest record-breaking performance, Earwood was already rewriting the Georgia state record books. In September 2025, at just 12 years old, he competed at a USA Powerlifting event in Ringgold, Georgia, where he set three state records for his age group. At that 2025 competition, he achieved a 385-pound squat, surpassing the previous record of 374 pounds. He also deadlifted 396 pounds, besting the former record of 390.5 pounds, and his total weight for all three lifts (including bench press) was 1012 pounds, breaking the previous record of 1001 pounds.
