Bambi Hits London's Kings Road

Street artist Bambi just dropped "True Punk" graffiti on London's Kings Road, adding fresh energy to one of the city's most iconic fashion streets. The piece is getting attention from street art enthusiasts and fits perfectly with Kings Road's rebellious fashion history. Meanwhile, an Ozzy Osbourne tribute appeared in Galle, Sri Lanka, showing how street art is connecting global music culture.

King's Road was originally established in 1694 as a private route for King Charles II to travel between his palaces. It wasn't until the 1800s that the road was opened to the public, setting the stage for its transformation into a celebrated London thoroughfare. The street became the epicentre of "Swinging London" in the 1960s, a hub for designers, artists, and musicians like The Rolling Stones. It was here that designer Mary Quant introduced the miniskirt at her boutique, Bazaar, revolutionizing fashion. In the 1970s, King's Road became the birthplace of the punk movement. Vivienne Westwood and Malcolm McLaren's shop at 430 King's Road, which changed names from "SEX" to "Seditionaries" and later "Worlds End," was the definitive source for punk style. Bambi's "True Punk" is located on this historic building. The artist, Bambi, is a well-known but anonymous British street artist often called the "female Banksy". A graduate of Central Saint Martins, her work often provides social and political commentary and is collected by celebrities such as Rihanna, Brad Pitt, and Adele. Bambi first gained widespread attention in 2011 for a tribute piece to the late singer Amy Winehouse in Camden. Another of her famous works, "Lie Lie Land," depicted former UK Prime Minister Theresa May and former US President Donald Trump in a parody of the *La La Land* movie poster. The appearance of music tributes in street art is a global phenomenon. Following the death of Ozzy Osbourne in July 2025, murals honoring the Black Sabbath frontman appeared not just in his hometown of Birmingham but also in Dundee, Scotland, and Auckland, New Zealand.
