BYD's Blade Battery 2.0, launched in early March 2026, uses lithium manganese iron phosphate (LMFP). This advancement allows LFP-powered EVs to target a 1,000km range, alleviating "range anxiety". Select models, such as the Denza Z9 GT and Yangwang U7, achieve over 1,000 km. The Blade Battery 2.0 comes in two formats: a "Short Blade" for high-speed charging and a "Long Blade" for high endurance. The "Short Blade" can charge from 10% to 70% in just 5 minutes, thanks to its 8C peak charge rate. The "Long Blade" has an energy density of 190-210 Wh/kg, a 40% increase over the first generation. BYD is investing heavily in charging infrastructure, planning 20,000 "Flash Charging" stations in China by the end of 2026. This includes 2,000 highway stations, placing a charger every 100 km. These stations will deliver up to 1,500 kW at 1,000V, adding roughly two kilometers of range every second. The Blade Battery 2.0 also boasts improved cold-weather performance, charging from 20-97% in 12 minutes at -30°C. It retains over 85% of its capacity at -20°C. While BYD focuses on safety and cost-effectiveness with LFP technology, Tesla uses nickel-based batteries for higher energy density.
