Fremont Restaurant Week Kicks Off

This year's event is the 4th annual, growing from an initial 40 participants in its first year to 70 today. A survey after the inaugural week found a majority of participating restaurants saw at least a 25% increase in revenue, with 92% reporting they attracted new customers. The event's growth reflects the city's broader economic strategy, which has established Fremont as the Bay Area's largest advanced manufacturing hub. The city is home to over 900 manufacturing and hardware companies, with one in every four jobs in Fremont being in the manufacturing sector. This industrial focus has attracted significant leasing from companies within the AI ecosystem. Major tech employers like Tesla, Meta, Lam Research, and Apple have a presence in Fremont, leveraging the city's extensive industrial real estate inventory. Apple's history in the city dates back to a Macintosh manufacturing facility opened in 1984, and it continues to lease space for storage and operations. Highlighting the city's role as a testbed for innovation, this year's Restaurant Week coincides with a new local tech deployment. DoorDash is launching its "Dot" autonomous delivery robots, which are manufactured in Fremont and will make their inaugural delivery at the Restaurant Week kickoff event. The all-electric DoorDash robots will operate in a phased rollout, initially in the Downtown, Centerville, and Irvington areas. This partnership between the city and DoorDash Labs underscores Fremont's strategy of linking its advanced manufacturing and robotics sectors with the local small business economy.
