Gordon Ramsay to Open 100th Restaurant in London
Gordon Ramsay's restaurant group is set to open its 100th location, Bread Street Kitchen & Bar, in May. The new restaurant will be located on the 59th floor of the 22 Bishopsgate building in the City of London, offering panoramic city views.
The Gordon Ramsay Restaurants group, founded in 1998, has evolved from a single fine-dining location into a global portfolio with 34 restaurants in the UK and 63 internationally. A 2019 deal with private equity firm Lion Capital specifically targeted expansion across the United States, scaling concepts from fast-casual to upscale. This growth is driven by a multi-tiered brand strategy, ranging from "super premium" concepts holding a total of eight Michelin stars to scalable "premium casual" and "casual" dining experiences. The Bread Street Kitchen brand fits the premium casual model, designed for replication in major international hubs like Singapore and Dubai. The group's recent financial filings for the year ending August 27, 2023, showed a turnover increase to £95.6 million from £78.9 million the previous year. However, this rapid growth came with significant pre-opening expenses, contributing to a reported pre-tax loss of £3.4 million for the period. The new restaurant is part of a larger, significant investment within the 22 Bishopsgate skyscraper. It joins other Ramsay ventures in the building, including the Asian-inspired Lucky Cat, the Michelin-starred Restaurant Gordon Ramsay High, and the Gordon Ramsay Academy culinary school. This opening marks the 15th anniversary of the Bread Street Kitchen brand, which will introduce its first-ever five-course tasting menu at the new location. The kitchen will be managed by Executive Head Chef Kamarl John, who previously worked at Claridge's. The foundation of the entire enterprise remains the flagship Restaurant Gordon Ramsay in Chelsea. Opened in 1998, it earned three Michelin stars by 2001 and has maintained that prestigious rating for over two decades, making it London's longest-running three-star restaurant.
