Ariana Grande's 'Brighter Days' Gets Reviews

Ariana Grande's "Eternal Sunshine Deluxe: Brighter Days Ahead" is being called "peak pop" by reviewers analyzing its polished production and thematic depth. YouTube critics are breaking down tracks highlighting themes of optimism and healing, with one reviewer asking if the album can "save me from myself." The album is being interpreted as both a personal and collective message of renewal.

The album's title itself is a direct nod to the 2004 film *Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind*, starring one of Grande's favorite actors, Jim Carrey. This cinematic influence points to the album's conceptual core, exploring themes of erasing memories after a painful breakup. *Eternal Sunshine* was primarily written and produced by Grande alongside pop music heavyweights Max Martin and Ilya Salmanzadeh. This team crafted a sound rooted in pop and R&B, with synth-pop and house influences, a departure from the more trap-influenced sounds of her previous albums. Critics noted the album's restrained vocals and the emotional vulnerability in its subject matter. Upon its March 8, 2024 release, the album debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 chart, marking Grande's sixth chart-topping album. It achieved the largest opening week for any album in 2024, with 227,000 album-equivalent units sold in the U.S. The initial release was followed by a "Slightly Deluxe" version just days later, adding bonus tracks including a remix of "Supernatural" with Troye Sivan. More than a year later, on March 28, 2025, a full reissue titled *Eternal Sunshine Deluxe: Brighter Days Ahead* was released, featuring six new tracks and an accompanying short film co-directed by Grande. This deluxe version was seen by critics as an essential extension of the original narrative, adding more depth to the journey of healing and looking toward the future. The reissue propelled the album back to the top of the Billboard 200 chart, with a massive surge in sales. The album's lead single, "Yes, And?", debuted at number one on the Billboard Hot 100, and was followed by the second single, "We Can't Be Friends (Wait for Your Love)". Grande's grandmother, Marjorie Grande, is even featured with spoken words on the track "Ordinary Things".
