The album, stylized as पर्वत ('mountain' in Hindi), was initially slated for March 20, 2026, but the release was moved up. It's the first album on Gorillaz's own label, KONG, distributed by The Orchard, a Sony Music subsidiary. Damon Albarn and Jamie Hewlett both experienced the loss of their fathers during the album's production, influencing its themes of death and the afterlife. The album features posthumous appearances from previous collaborators like Dennis Hopper, David Jolicoeur (of De La Soul), and Tony Allen. 'The Mountain' incorporates Indian classical instrumentation alongside Gorillaz's signature electronic and pop sounds. It was recorded in locations including India, London, and Devon. The album also features performances in English, Hindi, Arabic, Spanish, Yoruba and Russian. The album's first single, "The Happy Dictator," was released with a visual on September 11, 2025. The artwork, created by Jamie Hewlett, depicts the animated band members in India.
