India’s flagship skilling scheme is moving some training into Indian Institutes of Technology and National Institutes of Technology, tying short courses to campuses better known for engineering degrees. A December 2025 parliamentary reply said the current phase focuses on on-the-job-training-embedded, industry-relevant courses rather than the placement-tracking model used in earlier versions. A 2023 year-end review by the Press Information Bureau said PMKVY 4.0 was announced for financial years 2023-26 with courses in areas including artificial intelligence, robotics, mechatronics, internet of things and drones.
