PMKVY partners with IITs/NITs

Skill India’s PMKVY program announced partnerships with IITs and NITs for specialised training courses such as Product Assembly Assistant (Solar‑LED), Kisan Drone Operator and Data Analysis aimed at bridging skill gaps. (x.com) The scheme frames these tie‑ups as a way to build practical, job‑oriented competencies for evolving manufacturing and allied sectors. (x.com)

India’s flagship skilling scheme is moving some training into Indian Institutes of Technology and National Institutes of Technology, tying short courses to campuses better known for engineering degrees. (x.com) The Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship said the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana 4.0 scheme includes short-term training, special projects and recognition of prior learning, and the ministry’s social media post named courses including Product Assembly Assistant for solar light-emitting diode products, Kisan Drone Operator and Data Analysis. (msde.gov.in) (x.com) A drone operator course on Skill India Digital says trainees learn to run drones for agricultural and allied work, collect and analyse field data, spray crop chemicals or fertilizer where needed, and maintain the equipment. The course listing shows Agriculture Skill Council of India as the training partner and tags the role at National Skills Qualifications Framework level 4. (skillindiadigital.gov.in) The shift fits the way PMKVY 4.0 has been redesigned since financial year 2022-23. A December 2025 parliamentary reply said the current phase focuses on on-the-job-training-embedded, industry-relevant courses rather than the placement-tracking model used in earlier versions. (pib.gov.in) The government has also been steering the scheme toward newer technical fields. A 2023 year-end review by the Press Information Bureau said PMKVY 4.0 was announced for financial years 2023-26 with courses in areas including artificial intelligence, robotics, mechatronics, internet of things and drones. (pib.gov.in) Under the PMKVY 4.0 guidelines, Skill India Digital is supposed to act as a unified platform linking skilling programs with later opportunities. The same guidelines devote a full chapter to identifying skill gaps before targets and job roles are allocated. (msde.gov.in) The course architecture still reflects PMKVY’s older mass-training design as well as the newer industry push. National Skill Development Corporation material says PMKVY courses are paired with 40 hours of employability and entrepreneurship content alongside job-role-specific training. (nsdcindia.org) That combination helps explain why the ministry is pairing elite public engineering institutes with narrowly defined shop-floor and field roles. The announcement points to a model where the brand of the campus is being used to deliver shorter, job-linked credentials rather than only full-time degrees. (x.com) (msde.gov.in)
