Greater Bengaluru Authority Chief to Hold Public Meetings
The chief of the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) will soon begin holding public interaction meetings across all five of the city's corporations. The initiative is designed to address civic grievances directly and improve governance within the metropolitan area. The schedule for these meetings has not yet been announced.
The official overseeing these public meetings is M. Maheshwar Rao, who was appointed as the first Chief Commissioner of the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) in August 2025. Rao also holds the position of BBMP Chief Commissioner, bridging the transition between the old and new civic structures. The Greater Bengaluru Authority itself is a recent development, officially established on May 15, 2025, and becoming fully operational on September 2, 2025, replacing the long-standing Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP). This new three-tier governance structure is chaired by Karnataka's Chief Minister, Siddaramaiah, with Deputy Chief Minister D. K. Shivakumar serving as the Vice-Chairperson. The GBA initiative restructured the city's administration by dissolving the single large BBMP into five smaller, distinct city corporations: Bengaluru Central, East, West, North, and South. Each of these corporations is headed by its own chief commissioner to manage civic duties on a more local level. This move to decentralize is a key part of the Greater Bengaluru Governance Act, 2024. The new structure aims to create a more manageable and responsive administration for the Bengaluru Urban Agglomeration, a sprawling area of 712 square kilometers. The public interaction meetings are a direct mechanism for the GBA's leadership to connect with citizens under this new framework. One of the first such meetings has already been scheduled, with Chief Commissioner M. Maheshwar Rao set to hold a public grievance meeting at the Public Utility Building on M.G. Road following inspections of offices within the Central City Corporation.
