LA Museum Hosts 'First Fridays' Tonight

The Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County is hosting its "First Fridays" event tonight, March 6. The after-hours experience combines live music, science talks, and access to the museum's exhibits.

This year marks the 20th anniversary of the "First Fridays" after-hours experience at the museum. The 2026 season runs monthly from February through May, offering nighttime access to the museum's world-class exhibitions. Tonight's theme is "Life at the City Scale," kicking off a new discussion series titled "Life, From Our Guts to the Galaxy: Rethinking the Living World." This series is a collaboration with the Planetary Program at the Berggruen Institute. The featured discussion will explore how cities function as complex ecosystems for a multitude of species. The conversation features NHM's Assistant Curator of Community Science, Dr. Christine Wilkinson, and UCLA's Chief Sustainability Officer, Nurit Katz. The talk will be moderated by neuroscientist Dr. Yewande Pearse. Live musical performances will take place in the North American Mammal Hall. The lineup includes singer-songwriter al menne, formerly of the band Great Grandpa, and headliner THAO, who is expected to release her sixth studio album in 2026. The African Mammal Hall will be transformed into a DJ lounge with sets from Artform's Collective of Vinyl Selectors. Throughout the museum, visitors can find pop-up experiences, hands-on activities, and local food trucks.
