Rotterdam Opens Museum Hotel Concept
Rotterdam is emerging as Europe's "artiest city break" with a brand-new museum that offers rooms to sleep above the galleries. This innovative concept allows guests to immerse themselves in art overnight, blending hotel comfort with instant cultural access. The Dutch city's approach represents a fresh evolution in urban travel for those seeking 24/7 creative experiences.
- The Rotterdam location, which opened on November 15, 2021, is the second outpost for the Dutch hospitality brand "Hotel Not Hotel," with the original located in Amsterdam. - The hotel features 36 unique rooms created by a group of local artists, including Arno Coenen, who is also known for designing the ceiling of Rotterdam's Markthal. - Guest rooms are designed as art installations, with themes such as a "Candy House," a "Cuckoo Clock," and a "Vertical Swimming Pool." Some rooms are concealed behind hidden bookcases, adding to the element of discovery. - The project was co-founded by entrepreneurs Bruno Bont and Tijmen Receveur, who aimed to create an immersive artistic experience rather than a traditional hotel. - In addition to the guest rooms, the hotel includes a Mexican restaurant and cocktail bar named Jesús Malverde, which is also open to the public. - The hotel was developed in a formerly overlooked building near Rotterdam's Central Station, as part of a broader urban regeneration effort in the area. - There is potential for the hotel to expand to 51 rooms and add a 200-square-meter botanical garden in the future.
