South Africa Storms into Semifinals
South Africa's consistent performances with both bat and ball have secured their spot in the T20 World Cup semifinals. Their peerless form throughout the tournament makes them strong contenders for the title.
This semifinal appearance comes after an impressive unbeaten run through the tournament, including dominant victories over pre-tournament favorites India and the West Indies in the Super 8s stage. The Proteas secured their spot in the last four after India's convincing 72-run victory over Zimbabwe. Under the captaincy of Aiden Markram, South Africa has now stretched its unbeaten record in the tournament to six consecutive games. This commanding performance marks a significant shift for a team that has often entered tournaments as a strong contender but has yet to win a T20 World Cup title. Historically, the Proteas have reached the T20 World Cup semifinals on two previous occasions, in 2009 and 2014, and made their first final appearance in 2024. The team has participated in every edition of the tournament since its inception in 2007. In their decisive Super 8 match against the West Indies, a powerful 95-run opening partnership between captain Aiden Markram (82 not out) and Quinton de Kock (47) laid the foundation for a nine-wicket victory. Ryan Rickelton also contributed with an unbeaten 45 to chase down the target of 177 with 23 balls to spare. South Africa is the second team to officially book a spot in the semifinals, joining England from the other group. The other place in the last four from South Africa's group will be decided by the upcoming match between India and the West Indies. The semifinals are scheduled to take place on March 4 and 5, with the final set for March 8. Having topped their Super 8 group, South Africa will be looking to carry their momentum forward and break their title drought.
