LA Clinic Offers Plasma Exchange for Toxins
A Beverly Hills clinic has launched advanced therapeutic plasma exchange protocols. The initiative aims to provide personalized toxin reduction and biomarker-driven care, reflecting a growing trend of preventative medicine in response to rising environmental health concerns in Los Angeles.
Therapeutic plasma exchange (TPE) is an FDA-approved medical procedure, often likened to an "oil change for your body," where blood is drawn and separated into cells and plasma. The plasma is then discarded and replaced with a substitute, typically a protein solution like albumin, before the blood is returned to the patient. This process has been traditionally used in hospital settings to treat a variety of autoimmune diseases, such as myasthenia gravis and Guillain-Barre syndrome, by removing harmful antibodies and inflammatory proteins from the blood. More recently, it has been adopted by wellness and longevity clinics for its potential to remove environmental toxins and reduce inflammation associated with aging. A 2025 study published in *Medical Hypotheses* showed that a series of TPE sessions could significantly reduce levels of environmental toxins like BPA, glyphosate, and phthalates by more than 70%. These chemicals, found in everyday products like plastics and cosmetics, are linked to hormone disruption and other long-term health issues. Up to 90% of Americans are estimated to have microplastics in their bloodstream. While TPE is used for various medical conditions, its application for general detoxification and anti-aging is not FDA-approved and is part of a growing trend in preventative and regenerative medicine. Proponents claim benefits such as improved mental clarity, reduced inflammation, and enhanced immune function. The treatment is not without a significant cost, with prices at wellness clinics ranging from $5,000 to $10,000 per session. A full course of treatment for detoxification or anti-aging purposes can involve three to five sessions over a couple of months.
