Hocevar Wins All-Star Open

Carson Hocevar leveraged pit strategy to win the NASCAR All-Star Open, leading the final 46 laps to secure his place in the All-Star Race at North Wilkesboro Speedway. John Hunter Nemechek and Noah Gragson also advanced to the main event, while Joey Logano took responsibility for a violent restart crash at Phoenix.

Carson Hocevar's victory in the All-Star Open came down to a critical decision during the competition caution at lap 50 of the 100-lap race. While polesitter Shane van Gisbergen, who had dominated the first half, opted for four new tires, Hocevar's Spire Motorsports team made the call for a two-tire stop. This strategic move vaulted Hocevar to the front of the pack for the restart on lap 59, a lead he would not relinquish. The win marked a significant moment for Hocevar, who was competing in his first All-Star weekend. The 2024 NASCAR Cup Series Rookie of the Year is in his second full-time season driving the No. 77 Chevrolet for Spire Motorsports. While he expressed that he wasn't entirely pleased with his car's performance, the win was a testament to the team's strategy and his ability to hold off competitors. Noah Gragson's path to the main event came via the fan vote, making it the third consecutive year he has advanced in this manner. This popular vote secured his spot in the million-dollar exhibition race alongside Hocevar and second-place finisher John Hunter Nemechek. The Joey Logano incident at Phoenix Raceway occurred on a restart at Lap 217. Logano's No. 22 Ford made contact with the rear of Ross Chastain's car, causing Chastain to spin and collect multiple other drivers, including Austin Cindric, Bubba Wallace, and Anthony Alfredo. Logano, a three-time Cup Series champion, was later involved in a separate wreck on Lap 254 that ended his race.
